Splitting a stereo track....

...into 2 mono tracks????

Am I missing something obvious??? I can't seem to find this function. On most other programs, it's something simple like "Split stereo track". Show the way, masters.

Hmm, that is a weird one. I've never looked for it, but yeah, it sounds like a logical feature.

Maybe pan full left, then render to a new stem track, then pan full right and do it again?

Here's what I do: right click on the waveform/Item Settings/Item Channel Mode: Mono(Left). Then copy and paste the same waveform to another track and do the same thing to it but select Item Channel Mode: Mono(Right).

Maybe there's an easier way but that's what I use.

That's weird, I was looking for this function earlier today. While there are workarounds, Reaper should have a simple little function to do this.

In ProTools you can just drag a stereo track onto two empty mono tracks and it'll split it for you, and in my opinion, Reaper is better than ProTools, but it's simple little things like this that make Reaper a bit hard to get used to.

Pipeline, where are you?

So, there isn't a one (or 2) step way to just insert a stereo track and split it into 2 monos? Or am I misunderstanding something in your screen shot, Pipeline?

EIDT: XLR's way works just fine. 2 steps. Thanx alot.

I'm still surprised there isn't a simple "Split Stereo Track". Wavelab has it....even Audacity has it!!! But I'm glad I found a way to do it in Reaper.

errr, you make the macro right there and from now till the end of time, you hit ONE key and it does it

go to options\preferences\keyboard hit "new" and build that macro

You could think of it this way:

1. Justin provides you with a way to set up all your own custom commands, while he works on new cool features and stuff

or

2. He makes the commands for you, instead of spending time making cool new features

The macro editors and AHK are EXTREMELY powerful, the drum editing scripts Bevoss made for AHK are insane

Make use of them and you will be happy.

Thanx alot, Pipe. That Preference window is awesome. I should have visited it sooner.

I set my keyboard commands to render "mono left" and then "mono right". But, and this isn't to nitpick because I LOVE this program, I still have to do those 2 steps (plus re-importing the stereo track for the second mono-ization ). I just want to make sure now that I didn't miss a "split stereo track" in that huge drop down options menu.

I dont think you are doing it right. It is just one key and you are done.

Stereo track becomes two tracks. Top track is the left side, bottom track is the right side

There's nothing to import or render

OK, I get it now. Sorry, I've never used keyboard commands or my "F" buttons for anything. I understand now that I program all the steps into that one command.

Beautiful. Thanx
