Reaper compared to Cubase?

Im running SX3 and I am just hearing about reaper now. Im using a firepod. I have a few questions.

When I am doing remote stuff with my firepod and p4 3.6ghz 1gb ram laptop, i get pops and clicks with Cubase unless Im running 20ms of latency... Would Reaper be lighter on my system resources allowing me low latency?

How does reaper compare in general load time and speed?

What feature does reaper lack that I would miss with sx3?

If reaper would yeild better performance on my laptop, would I be able to import my projects to Cubase?

Would there be any reason to switch to reaper over Cubase?

I dont like the dongle thing. Its a pain. I forgot it at home once when I went to record remotely with the laptop. What a headache.

Thanks,
Josh

You should beable to get a 256 buffer latency on the firepod with that PC in reaper, as long as its not a FW chipset issue going on (presonus likes the TI's). Load time is pretty instant. No dongle hassle, you dont even have to install reaper if you dont want to, a lot of people just install reaper to a usb key key and take it around their neck.

Featurewise you might miss some midi stuff from cubase , like the midi drum pattern maker thingy or whatever

yeah any truly compliant vst/vst-i will run fine, and if you find one that doesn't the developer will usually deal with the coder of the other plug to find a solution

Is reaper sonic-ly on par with other daw software like cubase? I see the specs, but will it really 'sound' as good? Aslo can I use control surface like my BCF-2000 with Reaper?

They all sound the same except the broken ones, which only sound EXTREMELY slightly different. There are a few threads here at HR and over at the reaper forum proving this fact.

As pipelineaudio said, they will all sound the same.

And the BCF-2000 apparently works fine in Reaper.
