Shelly

I found her on the way home from a gig in Baltimore in 1991. I was playing in a funk-rock band called Skychurch, and we were on our way back to D.C. after funk-rockin' it at a club called The Rage. We stopped at the Shell station that's right before one gets onto I-95 South so we could fill up on gas and munchies. I headed for the bathroom, but before I could get to it, this little kitten came crawling out from under a bush, stopped, looked at me and said, "Mewwwww." My heart instantly melted, and I picked her up and said, "You're coming with me." Soon after, she was named Shelly Rage.

So perhaps it's appropriate that when I got home from my first gig with 7 Door Sedan that I found my sweet Shelly in respiratory distress. It was 3AM when I drove her to the vet. It was 11AM when I gave permission to have her put down.

So here's to my little rock 'n' roll kitty. 16 years ain't a bad stretch for a gas station waif.

Sorry to hear that mate, it's a shit of a decision to have to make............I'm still getting over having to do it.


I picked our first cat up in '82....a tiny little kitten in a shopping centre car park, she was fifteen and still going strong until two staffordshire terriers dragged her out from under a car in our driveway and killed her..............it took me over two months but I found out who the bastard was that owned them and let the council rangers deal with him.

Ausrock - Wow, that really sucks. I lived in a basement apartment a couple of years ago, and I had a super cool neighbor cat that would come and hang out with me when I was outside having a cigarette (no-smoking house) and shortly after I moved out of there I heard he had been mauled to death by a dog from a few doors down.

Sorry to read that you lost Shelly.

My cat passed away 7 years ago on Christmas Day late in the afternoon.

I miss him sorely. He was a hunter and my mouser and chipmunker killer.

Gee Madz...I am so sorry for your loss of Shelly.

It seems so out of place to not see their face and void of the warmth they brought, as they cuddled. But in your heart and in your mind...Shelly will live forever.
