your music kinda remineds me of modest mouse and the pixies sometime..very cool. I think there are alot of things that can be better in the recording..but hell, it's indie rock!! who cares? dont change a thing.

Listening to Waves..
Starts out really good. ok, this IS good, so I'll be really picky.
Drums could sound a bit tighter.. The snare sounds a bit 'loose'... could use a bit more attack. The guitars could sound a bit warmer somehow.. maybe ot's the distortion that makes them sound a bit fuzzy/cold/i dunno.. *song ends* Good song.

Listening to Pop
nice sound on the accoustic. Drums a lot better on this one. (they're real on this one huh?). Good one dubbling the vocals. Sounds really good. I'd double the guitar, or record it in stereo. Yeah.. very nice song.

Listening to Style Sound
Nice intro.... gotta get those vocals up!! That ride sounds dead. Guitar-sound isn't all that. The song would take a step up if the guitar sounded better. Crank up the vocals!!!

Listening to Zebra Noise
Bass seems a bit high, it sorta hides the guitars. Vocals could come up a bit. Another nice song. Keep it up.

Waves and Style Sound

Listened to Waves and Style Sound

Waves had a good vibe. In both songs you have some very good vocal things happening, bring them out some more.

Both songs could use work on the endings.

More snare, esp. Style Sound.

Overall, very good material.

More focus on the vocals; as in, its good I want to here more.

Thank you all for the great feedback! I had debated whether or not to put REAL drums on Waves, & now after reading everyone's comments, I definitely will for sure. I always put real drums on my recordings, so I'm really not sure what convinced me not to do it on Waves... certainly couldn't fool anybody! Not on HR.com anyway!!

ametth - I had never heard of Modest Mouse, but I went and checked them out & it is exactly the type of music I love & listen to. I'll be picking up some of their music... They sound a lot like Built to Spill. Yeah, the Pixies have probably influenced me a lot. I'm still listening to Frank Black too. Not as good as the Pixes, but still good stuff.

Meshuggah - I think I did record the acoustic in stereo... I may just not have panned them wide enough to actually hear it very well. I'll fiddle with the pan settings next time I mix it. I agree w/ you about the vocals on Style Sound & the bass on Zebra Noise... I think I must
be too self-conscious of my voice to crank it, but you're definitely right that they need to come up some.

owlriver - Yep, I feel a pattern here... turn up the vocals! Good catch on needing more snare on Style Sound... Man, I love getting this feedback! I really needed someone to listen who isn't nearly as close to the songs as I am.

sonusman - I really appreciate & value your comments as I have seen some of your articles on this site. I will be re-mixing all of the songs, so I will definitely put your suggestions to use. Sorry to be naive, but what do you mean by "the bass is too round"? What can I do to fix it? Also, what is the best way to tame the low rumbles? Cut my low frequency EQ or just turn the bass instruments down? Maybe it depends...? I'm not real familiar w/ EQ so I try to stay away from it as much as possible.

Thanks again everyone for the great comments!
Anyone else?? Please keep them coming... I really feel this will make my mixes much better.

John
