does styrofoam do anything

acustically .....is it good for anything at all besides making fire?

Very poor absorber. Not pours enough, too stiff. As apposed to curtains for example, it would reflect even the highs I believe.
It does come in lots of cool shapes though.

It's good for insulation, not good for acoustics. And blocks of the stuff can be wedged between things that rattle to stop some of that kind of noise (sometimes it squeeks though.)

I use it for Gobos or as a frame - it's big and light and easy to glue together, you can hang a duvet over it.

Don't use it for anything, it's a fire hazard and does not absorb sound.
