Gigging with the Orange Tiny Terror

....... looks like it's my main gigging amp for small gigs. I have a shitload of great amps for louder gigs .... a really nice collection. But getting a small low powered good sounding amp that you can use in a closet sized local bar has been hard. I bought a Laney 30 watt faux-tube amp that sounded great until it blowed up real good after about 6 gigs.
I like my Epi Valve Jr. a lot but it's just not loud enough for anything except the very smallest of gigs and even then, it's only useful as a stage monitor for me to hear ..... won't really put very much out into the room.
So when i went to BR last week to bury my dad, a friend had one he'd quit using after buying a Matchless 15 and he told me to take the TT and try it and pay for it if I liked it.
I do like it quite a bit.
It's loud enough .... WAY louder that the VJr ...... sounds great and it's easy to haul. I'm gonna recone one of my JBL D-110s and build the smallest cab that it'll fit into and I'll have a killer small rig that's super portable.

The amp needs some tube changing I think .... a little noisy ..... and it doesn't really do clean. But its' crunch is nice enough sounding that you can get away with it on rhythm and it sounds good on everything else and that's good enough for me.
Ease of use is uppermost in my mind since the cattle that comprise audiences don't know squat anyway. They wouldn't notice if I didn't use an amp at all ....... so I don't on a lot of gigs. But sometimes I need to have an amp behind me even if it's just for my ears and the Orange fits the bill.
Seems a bit expensive for what it is but I got mine used for $300 and that's not too bad.
Plus ...... now I can tear my Valve Jr. apart and mod the crap out of it.

Always heard good things about this orange TT's. I'd really like to try one, and maybe buy one. Good luck

...

It's awesome with a pair of Celestion alnico blues (8 ohm, one cable to each)

keep in mind that 150 watts is about twice as loud as 15...

Yeah I've read that. Can you do that though? ... On FAQs at the Orange site it says you have to use 16 ohm speakers if you want to use two speakers ..... one to each 8 ohm jack. Sounded to me like it doesn't want to tolerate a 4-ohm load.

But 2-12's kinda does away with the teeny tiny aspect of it though I may want to try that and use it for larger gigs. But I tend to go with one of my bigger amps for that.
I've been using it thru the blown Laneys' cheapo Celestion 10 and it sounds good like that. So I'm thinking one of those JBLs might add a little sparkle and make it a bit cleaner. I end up doing country frequently so I'm kinda trying to get it versatile enough for any style and I doubt I'll ever have any problem getting dirt out of it so I'm hoping to find a bit cleaner sound out of it although it's not necessary.
