what is BDS?

I HOPE I HAVENT ASKED THIS BEFORE . . . A CONTACT TOLD ME I NEED TO GET SONGS REGISTERED WITH BDS BEFORE GETTING THEM PLAYED ON A RADIO STATION . . .

I HEARD OF HAVING THEM REGISTERED WITH BMI - BUT NOT BDS . . .

BDS is basically like Soundscan (Same company, different service) for radio. They keep track of how many times your material is on air. Companies like BMI/ASCAP collect monies for their represented songwriters.

Cool. Now I Was Told That Radio Stations Respect Your Attempts To Have Your Indie Azz Music Played On Their Stations If U Are Listed With Bds And Your Royalty Company (bmi Or Ascap) . .. This Seem Truthful To Yall?? Or Just Another Stall Tactic . . .. ?

basically aka how i keep track of my royalties.......

yeah they keep track of how many times your material gets played commercially, i'm not sure if BDS comes into play dealing with internet radio or its from a subdivision....

but if you don't have it already definitely get you some publishing, it helps you get leverage on negotiating label contracts to an extent.....

Its mostly just that, respect.
Majority of radio stations owned by the larger corps (like clear channel) will most likel (98%) not play independent music. The best places to get played on air, are college radio stations. From there, followings occur, and major stations are more inclined to play something that's sturring up the air already.

interesting, is BDS something you have to subscribe to? i never even got into this realm being that i know unless i came with a dance instructional, i probably wouldn't get too much airplay, but if you got ya ASCAP, you pretty much in the loop of gettin reciprocated $$$$$$ from ya songs gettin commerically played......

yeah, they have a sufficiated system, that from what I was told, "knows" that your song is being aired, by automatically "hearing" the track through software. So it's not limited to internet radio. Because Internet radio currently has it's problems legally that lawyers are still trying to work out, the laws & net radio are still new needing good regulation (dj's having to pay more to play music etc too), there are problems with tracking net plays

pretty much, and speakin of college radio, i need a list of some college radio stations, if not all...... i wanna give the youngins somethin to mentally digest in between the partyin and build a buzz by doin it....

also every need to know if not now..real soon clear channel and radio one will have to start open slots to play indie music... some radio stations here (at least in VA)is already doin it... so Gully email FA$E and get the 2 addresses he got to submit radio edited material to be played on the air..we sending in Hate or love and Gotta Just this week..
