My Gal and I bought our home about 5 months ago. The only home stereo gear we have in the living room is record player (with massive record collection) and a duel cassette deck, the amp and speakers. We love it! I must confess though that I do have a crappy laptop I keep at work with I- tunes on it. Much easier then lugging my record player/records back n forth!!

“Sensory deprivation” That quote by Neil Young says it all!

Seems they are no nearer a new popular digital format to replace CD than they were then!

Dave Mustang was completely wrong. He should have swaped the words digital around with analog, then the quote would be correct. Digital allows people who otherwise cant perform to loop, copy, paste, and edit an incomplete performance into a full complete performance. I admit Im guilty of that too. But in Analog you really need to be able to perform your whole part (for the most part).
eg Shitney Spears. Id love to hear an album of her where she has to sing EVERYTHING analog and no copy, pastingor 100X overdubbed vocals. She'd sound like Shit.

Yeah, if you stay 100% in analog, you're either good (for real) or suck and analog will show you either way.

Granted she was a child then, but I have heard her perform on Star Search and she had a pretty good voice. I don't know what happened since then, vocally but she had a good talent for singing, only to have it replaced by dance numbers and heavy digital editing later on.

That was great. What a dork that Dave Mustaine is. I've heard that name before but I never knew who he was. I just got that XTC record on ebay. They show it at the end. "Oranges And Lemons" It's a GREAT album!

Yeah, poor guy... he was repeating the marketing hype that was oozing from everywhere at the time. The worst off are those that still believe it in this day and age.

When they talk about digital here do they mean ADAT or were functional computer rigs available at this point in studios?

At the time many digital systems were available, including DASH, Pro-Digi, ADAT and DAW. The people in the video are talking about digital in general and it jumps back and forth between studio and consumer mediums, but the example used for the graphic is 16/44.1 CD. What they didn't know then is that we would dumb down even further to MPEG-Layer3 as a common consumer format.

They still assumed technology would move towards higher fidelity...

It's indeed not an opinion but a fact that his comments were retarded, to say the least. If anything, analog would reveal tons more about the talent 'cause there's nowhere to hide, as in a lack of ridiculous number of ways one can manipulate a performance, something which is possible (and abused) in digital. Nothing to apologize for 'cause that WAS a dumb ass comment by Mr. Mustaine..

Daniel, I would imagine, the person who made this documentary was a pro-analog guy, so the dumber a digital advocate sound - the better the cut for the film . Dave did a geart service and so the film-make could not thank him enough

Arrow Key points:...

Digital solved the problems with analog.
Some say digital's flawed and some say it's more accurate.
Neil Young lost his sound, but did more with it.
Peter Gabriel uses both.
Editing is the strongest selling point of digital.
Your 'puter can emulate analog.
Douchbags who use digital think they're ahead of the cusp.
Golden ears who mixed Beyonce and Duran Duran can't tell the difference.
Musicians who think they know the difference can't even tell on their own album.
Dave Mustain says you like analog 'cause you suck!

Gosh, that was very informative.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! That was funny, man! What a great summary!!!!!!!!!
It's a shame that guy Ken Andrews feels the way he does about Analog. I like his music and he does write, record and produce his own stuff using digital .but The interesting fact about Him is: His first band - FAILURE, recorded their first record at STEVE ALBINI's ANALOG studio. Look it up. It's called "Comfort" by "Failure". Now the producer of this clip (who was it again, mtv or vh1?) is comparing analog to digital using both of these guys as spokespeople. Wow, interesting....

The sound is Denser.
I dont think Denser is a word. You would say that it is "More Dense". At about 5:00 minutes in he starts talking about it being Denser.
