TSR-8 Anal drift ?

Hey!
I have a question bout sync and TSR-8's. Actually three. So Ill number them.
1. I have experienced the dreaded anal drift. I want to know if what I want to do is possible with sync. I know you need to stripp channel 8 with some type of time code. But let's say I do that and fill up the other 7 tracks. Then I dump them into Pro-Tools. Now from what I have read it appears that everyone just dumps the result back to the exact spot on the tape that the originals came from. I dont want to do that. I would like to move to a fresh spot on the tape and dump it there but also be able to keep the computer and TSR-8 in sync. Is this possible? Or do I have to keep it in the exact same spot for the sync to work?
2. Since I have never tried to sync anything together, when everything is synced what happens? I mean if Im recording to the TSR-8 with the computer synced up will I see the same audio that Im recording appear in Protools as if Im recording it there without the TSR-8?
3. If I want to do midi drums with this setup is this even possible? Or should I just do the midi drums in PT and not even attempt them in Anal?
Thanks for any help in advance.

Hey!
I am about to sink. Actually three times. So I'll dismember myself.
1. I have experienced the dreaded anal drift. I want to know if what I want to do is possible with a stink. I know I need to strip off and display my channel 8 times in some kind of Da Vinci code. But let's say I do that and fill up 7 cracks. Then I take a dump into the swimming pool. Now from what I have bled, it appears that everyone just takes a dump, and the result returns us back to the exact spot on the cape from which the aboriginals came from. I dont want to do squat. I would like to move a fresh tapeworm within the turd, and dump it in the sink. Is this possible? Or do I have to keep it in the exact same spot for the sink to spurt?
2. Since I have never tried two sinks together, when everything is in the one sink, what happens? I mean, if Im purporting to be a taser user with the computer upright in the sink, will I see the same lard dripping smear on my tool as if Im purporting to be there without the taser?
3. If I want to drop mud buns with this setup is this anally possible? Or should I just drop the mud buns in the pot directly and not even attempt it anally?

Thanks for any help in advance.

A little anal drift is a good thing. It gives your recording a nice, warm, rich, thick feel to it.

In all honesty I'm not quite sure what you were asking.

Part of one of the questions seemed to be about dumping from tape to protools and then back but in a different part of the tape. To do that you would have to strip the destination with the code again from the same offset as the source, and lock protools against it, or else lock the tape against your protools timecode. Or you might just be able to record the timecode into protools as well as the rest and then dump it all back.

I don't know if this would be a good idea to do repeatedly, but you could probably get away with it for a few passes.

The other questions will have to be answered by someone who's ever used protools.

Jp,
To clarify. Alot of people describe their sync setup by saying that they will strip track 8 on a TSR-8 with time code or whatever its called. They will then fill up the 7 tracks with music. (Obviously I want more than 7 tracks) Well then they'll dump the 7 tracks to the computer. Mix, cleanup, effects and so on. It appears that because of the 8th channel time code, they'll dump the mix to say channel 7, with the 8th channel time coded. But then wouldnt you just be rerecording over the original 7 tracks. I would like to be able to keep everything locked up but dump the 7 tracks back from the computer to a FRESH spot on the tape. So that Im not re-recording over and over on the same spot of the tape. Since I've NEVER done time code, I want to know if this is even possible.
2. I also want to know if when I have my computer locked to the TSR-8 or the other way around (whichever is better), ok so Im recording track 1 on the TSR-8 in analogue. Will I also be able to see that same track being printed to Pro-tools more or less in real time, or even after the take is done? Or do I in fact have to fill up all 7 tracks and do a dump into PT or any other computer based setup?

If you are talking about recording onto MTC / SMPTE synced multitrack & later editing in Pro Tools & sending it back to tape yes it can be done that way. You would maybe have to nudge edited parts back slightly in due to latency? What Pro Tools interface do you have?

I think you would be better off keeping the edited parts in PT & run them in sync with the tape tracks for mixdown instead of sending them back to multitrack tape though?

Better not get too anal about this!

Why is everyone being so ANAL about this? Its just a question.

Oh to answer what type of ProTools setup I have. I am running the Digi002 factory. Or the one with the mixer and faders.
Is that capable of running and or creating time code?

You need a MTC /SMPTE sync unit to record a signal code on 1 track of your tape multitrack, (usually recorded on the highest numbered outside channel) On playback Pro Tools will sync if slaved to the code & follow your tape machine.
