Question Is FXPansion worth it?

So I found this program called FXPansion (www.fxpansion.com) and it lets you convert free online plug ins from vst to rtas format so they are compatible with pro tools. It seems almost too good to be true but has anyone out there tried it or think that it looks like a worthy buy?

yes, totally.

It works really well and allows you to use loads of free VST plugs.

If there's one plug you gotta own if you're using PT, it's this one

If it actually weighed anything, it would be worth it in gold. Think of all the silly things you've spent $100 on. Just make sure you study up on delay compensation in PT.

every plugin you add to a track induces a certain amount of delay. Because the plugin has to take time to process that audio. After certain plugins or multiple plugs you audio can start to playback late. Certain programs out there compensate for this....they call it delay compensation.

depends. not always. PTLE doesn't offer the same delay compensation that TDM/HD has, but they do have a round-about way of compensation. One of the qualms LE users have. For most of your plugins, this won't matter. Reverb plugs, noise reduction, and any larger, processor intensive plugs can cause a noticeable delay. This can be fixed by either nudging your audio back in the timeline or bouncing to a new track and nudging that back.

incidendtly, you can see the amount of delay incurred by the DSP process by right clicking (ctrl-click) a few on times on the volume display on the track; it should scroll thru fader level, peak level and plug-in delay (in samples).
