Howdy Josh!

Way back in the 80's, (perhaps before you were born?), I started off my overdubbing adventures with a Radio Shack mixer and a couple of home stereo cassette decks, recording a rhythm guitar track and an old Boss Dr. Rhythm, (the original one! ) and then on playback of that, I'd add on other instruments and vocals that would feed to the second cassette deck and learned the ins and outs of overdubbing with that setup. Of course, I quickly got frustrated with having the mix locked to the moment of conception and saved up for my first TASCAM 244 Portastudio which allowed me to add tracks on the same tape and be able to control the mix on playback because each part had it's own track on the tape.

We all have to start somewhere and there's important lessons that can be learned at each stage of your recording experience so I'll wish you good luck and hope you have fun along the way.

Cheers!

Arrow I also started out with tape-to-tape overdubs.

That's the beginning of all the mania!

Started out overdubbing between boomboxes. You would just play the first tape really loud and play along to it while the second boombox picked up all the noise.

Since you've already got the Behringer mixer, when it's time for you to upgrade, check out the Tascam 234 or 238.

That's soooo funny! Man.. ..I did it the same way when I was 15! I "overdubbed" so many times it sounded so bad! Then I gave the tape to a girl thinking she'd like it......... She did! Ha!

I guess I jumped into this a little late in my life. Oh well, I figure I still have another 30 or 40 years left, provided nothing happens to me in that time. Hmmmm.........let's see

Learn to play the guitar (acoustic) - in progress........slowly
Learn how to use the 424 mkII comfortably - getting there
Book up on the recording process - in progress
Setup Pro-Tools for recording - NEVER!

Maybe I'm trying to learn too many things at once.

J, get out while you can! Too late, sounds like you have the disease. Where should we send flowers?
