ok. here's a convoluted reason for her name.
Metolius is a river in Oregon. My friend found little Metolius as a tiny kitten in a drain pipe. My friend and a small group of us had been to Oregon for a conference. I had a beer brewed in Metolius which is near the conference site. Several weeks later she called me on a Saturday. She asked me to house the little thing until the shelter opened on Tuesday since she is allergic to cats. I told her I couldn't do that because once the kitten entered our house it wouldn't be leaving. She, Metolius, has been here ever since.

Dogman was out of town when Metolius came to stay, so he doesn't have this story ingrained in his psyche. Oh well... no one is perfect.
