World War III at the North Pole?

Being a Canadian, I always thought the North Pole belonged to Canada?

Now Russia, The United States, Denmark and Greenland are all posturing for possession of the area because of possible oil reserves deep below!

I thought there was only penguins on the poles and maybe the odd polar bear?

It's not exactly a vacation hot spot!

I think all they do is drill holes to ice fish and count seals...

They do those kind of things not at the poles, but much further away, where it's slightly more hospitable to do so. The poles themselves, in reality are pretty barren places.

I have been there at lest three times as a soldier.

Didn't see anyone from Russia, The United States, Denmark or Greenland.

A couple of decades ago, the US icebreaker Polar Sea traversed the Northwest Passage. Naturally, since the US considers the passage to be an international waterway, they did not ask for Canada's blessing. This ommission sparked a mild diplomatic incident, our immediate response being to drop little Canadian flags on their heads.
