What's Orion??? I thought he was like, the lord of the forest who comes out at midsummer.

Orion is a constellation with loose pants.

Hey, apl, what say we enjoy fall first?

Well, yeah, that's unavoidable. But there's something spectacular about Orion over your head on a crystal clear moonless night with a blanket of snow on the ground.

How late were you up

Anyway, if you are a night owl, you can see about 75% of the constellations visible in your location on any given night. You just have to stay up all night

Or live in the Arctic/Antarctic circle, that works too . . .

I got to bed around 11. I saw the constellation about 5:45 as I was taking the trash out.

Orion is amongst the minority that walks around the sun every year.

That depends on your latitude. If you at the North or South Pole, you get all the same stars every night. If you are at the equator, all the stars are seasonal.

You are in between, but you still have more seasonal stars than circumpolar.

Winter?

Maybe in Indiana. Down here it's the peak of hurrican season. Well, two days past the peak to be accurate. Winter doesn't officially start until the Canadian's show up in their speedo suits and the accents change from South Florida to South Jersey.

Not quite, it lasts for six months! But every "night" of that period, you have the same stars. They just go round and round and round . . .
