i've been sucked in by pro tools!

hi,

i'm a cubase se user and i've been very happy with this platform for years. however, i recently did some recording of my band using a pro tools le setup for the very first time and i've got to say i'm totally hooked.

since then i've been searching the internet (mainly ebay) to get my own pro tools. i've found the odd mbox 1 with pro tools le 6, but i figured, if i'm gonna spend over 100 quid on a second hand mbox, i might as well get one of those mbox 2 mini's for a little more.

the problem is, the new mbox 2 mini comes with le 7 which only runs on osx 10.4, which i don't have (i'm running osx 10.3.9), so that would mean i would have to go and fork out for a new osx.

or, once you buy a digidesign product, will it run with any version of pro tools? and can you downgrade from le 7 to le 6?

thanks

you should be able to downgrade...you'll need to contact Digi and tell them you want an earlier version of PT because you can run 7 on your computer
Although be advised, the Mbox 2 Mini didn't come out until 7.x and has not been tested by Digi with 6.x versions. So there's no promise that it will work flawlessly.

Agreed and solid advice. I'd look into a 001 or the Focusrite MBox 1(solid little rig). If you're hooked, it won't take long to want to upgrade OS and get the "new" real deal.

if you're going to do this, avoid the 001. It's an old piece of gear that isn't supported (software version wise) with Digi anymore. So the version you'll get to run it won't have any of the 6.9/7.x features on it and you'll have to buy all new hardware if you want to upgrade.
