Dumb Cat...

my cat seems like she just can't figure out how to shit in her litter box. well, i mean she sits in the litter box, but she hangs her ass out over the edge of the box and ends up shitting on the floor. she has no problem pissing in the litter box, but half the time she just shits on the floor while sitting in the litter box. it doesn't matter if i just put fresh litter or whatever. sometimes she'll make it in the box and it won't be a problem, but the 60% of the time she misses, it really stinks up the place. i tried getting one of those litter boxes with the high edges and it didn't help. and it's not like the box is too small either....what can i do?

Hmmmm...that is an odd problem. I've had them miss before, but never on a regular basis. Until you solve your problem...newspaper on the floor will assist in your clean up though.


Perhaps this kitty would be a good student, for the toilet training program...?

How old is she and has she done this from the very beginning or is this a new thing?

well she's gonna be 2 pretty soon, i think she was born in mid to early september. and she has done it since she was tall enough to hang her ass out of the box. when she was a tiny little kitten, she would just crap in the litter box and bury it like normal. then she got bigger and would shit off the edge of the box. i tried getting the biggest damn litter box i could find, plus the ones with high edges, and she still has to sit right at the end of the box to go shit. first she will start digging in the middle of the box, then she will walk around and dig some more, then instead of crapping where she was digging, she will just shit off the side. sometimes she will sit far enough in the box where it lands in the litter, but it's hit-or-miss.

yeah i mean i fill it pretty good, and it's a huge box. she has enough in there to dig around and not hit the bottom. and sometimes when she shits off the edge, she will sit there and dig litter over the sides of the box (which is not easy to do since it has tall sides) and it just flies everywhere and makes a huge mess of my bathroom. or if i accidentally leave the toilet paper on the roll, she will completely unroll it and use that to cover it.

Get a box with the lid on it...most of ours have the lid, and the cats don't care. They have big ones, so get the biggest one you can.

one of our cats, calvin (aka knucklehead) has that "problem". we rescued him when he was 3 weeks old, i bottle fed him, had to "help" him go to the bathroom (like a mama cat does with newborn kittens) and all that. so he missed out on a lot of the 'training' that a mama cat passes on to her kittens. you should've seen him scratching in the litter for the first time--he knew he was supposed to do it but wasn't sure why and all that. he's still never learned that the point is to bury his poop......

anyway, he's something like 23lbs and absolutely huge (both tall and long as well as heavy), and for some reason almost ALWAYS poops with his butt hanging out the box.....and we've got the biggest lidded box they make. sometimes the poop lands on the mat outside the box......sometimes it doesn't.

in our case, he's just dumb. very loving......but dumb. hence why i named him knucklehead (even if the wife insists his name is calvin ). i'll post pics of him and his sister zoe when i get back home......

I don't lick asses or toads but I do sniff Jenni's fur and I can usually get high from it! Of course I have to wait my turn with the other males

The lidded boxes work for our big cats most of the time.
We have forgotten to latch the lid on before though, and the big boys have knocked the lid off while dumping. The 'funny' part is they scare themselves when it crashes to the ground. The 'sick funny' part is that they finish pooping on the run.

cleanup to follow. so we ultimately pay the price for our own oversights.

lidded boxes really work well most of the time in spite of human error.

crazy cat, the old stuff was good! it really killed the smell and was easy to clean and didn't have any dust.

the new one kills the smell pretty good, and is pretty easy to clean so far, but is dusty.
