Exclamation Monitors

I need help finding the best set of monitors i can for under $500.
I have a band coming in in a week and a half, and mine blew out a few days ago.

Anybody know much about monitors? Help is greatly appreciated

I have the KRK RP series and love them. The Wharfedale 8.2's are also worth a listen as are the Samson Rubicon series.

You can get a pair of any of the above for well within your price range.

Those KRK RP-8's look really good. Is it $250 for one or for the pair?

$250 is for a single speaker.

I have the smaller RP-5's and would buy another pair of them again if they stopped working.

k. 75 watts per speaker is fine for me lol.
Is there anything at all you've been displeased with about them?

Not a thing.

They're not harsh or fatiguing, the mixes translate well to every system I play them on and for the size of my room they're plenty loud enough.

I picked these out from a gallery of the competition -- Behringer, Alesis, Events, Yamahas, even Wharfedales and these just shone out of the crop like well balanced speakers should.

I mix everything from dub to hardcore to synth pop at work and we have bigger KRK's there bought on my recommendation.

The speakers are not bass-light on their own, but the subwoofer is on my want list.

I don't think it's crucial--- I'm using just the speakers and have for more than a year now. If you do buy the sub buy it at the same time you buy the speakers.

Be sure to listen to your favorite CD's for a few days so you can get to know how the speakers sound in your room. There are a few adjustments that you may want to play around with on the speakers - and I assume on the sub - until you get them dialed into what sounds good to you...
