I do sound for acoustic groups as well as my own, using mackie 1604 vlz pro mixer, behringer feedback and effects processors, and various AT and Shure mics. I would like to be able to record to Hard drive for live as well as home situations. Does anyone have any experience with the vsr 880 and its performance under these conditions? Is there another option I haven't considered that may be better? The specs. for the vsr seem to indiacate a machine much more capable than what I really need, but seems to be the only unit out there. I've seen them for 739 at Mar's Music, any cheaper price, without going ebay?

For the money and for live use I think the VSR880 is currently your best bet.I say this because it has all those RCA inputs on the back which a lot of HD machines lack so you can keep each track separate until mixdown.ADATS have these too but they cost much more and HD recording is much more flexible than tape.
