4 kittens found roaming the yard, mother too, what to do?

they are scared of humans, so i'm assuming they're stray. they seem mute also, so they growl and hiss. no sound when they try w/ wide open mouths, odd...

they seem hungry. no idea where the mother came from, never saw her either.

run like hell when they see me.

i don't really want those 4 and the mother to reproduce exponentially soon.

not sure what to do.

i hadn't seen them for a while, then i saw a couple of them once, someone else must be feeding them...then early last Sunday i had to bury one, it was cold by the curb.
