voice to synth??

Im working on an instrumental album.
I plan to incorperate vocals in weird ways..

One idea im playing with, is recording vocals, and then thru effects automation etc... finding a way to transform the vocals into a synth type sound, which will perform a melody, and then break back down into vocals again.

any off the cuff ideas on how to achieve this? anyone ever done it? impossible?

Could you weave in some weird effect as an envelope, like you can with pan or gain in some apps...have the effect start to morph in gradually, then out gradually (or quickly if you wanted that).

GTP can do envelopes for gain and pan like that...maybe some apps can let you do a similar thing with effects...as in run a synth effect over the voc and adjust the envelope for how you want it.

Have you tried a Vocoder? That's pretty much what they do. Also, try using crossfades to morph in and out. Listen to Dogs by Pink Floyd.

Antares (Auto-tune company) used to sell a synth named Kantos that does exactly this. Not sure if it's still available though.
