strat problem solved ....

problem was that friggin vol knob .... i was hitting it constantly ... it was in the worse place possible ... i tried changing my playing style to avoid it .. but i just could not play it as fast as i should ........ so i ordered a new pickguard from warmoth ... sss vintage 8 hole white pearl cut out for the sw/ but w/ no holes for the pots ... i drilled my own holes as close togeather and as far out of my way as possible..... now i can play it like want to .... fast smooth .... should have done that years ago .......... anyone else have this problem ???

Yeah, if I don't play with the volume all the way up on my strat, I'll eventually bump it for a sudden and unwelcome volume boost. I just always play with it all the way up and use a volume pedal to control the volume.

I can't say that Strats ever caused me any problems when I started playing them, the selector switch on Telecasters did get in my way when I first got one-but it grew accustomed to it quickly and it's a comfortable as can be now.

Interesting timing, I was discussing this exact "design flaw" with several other players last Saturday in a local music store. We were all in agreement (with you) that the volume knob was placed right where our pinkie wanted to be and we all bump the knob and make unplanned volume adjustments. I'm sure players who play closer to the neck don't have this problem, but for those who like to play closer to the bridge it is a constant nuisance.

yes it seemed that it could not have been more in the way .... i was constantly hitting it .... every down stroke in the e or b string .... palm muting was impossible ....... now it plays like a completely different guitar ... i am going to use it at a big gig this sat along w/ the les paul ..... this will be the first gig i will enjoy playing the strat

I think the strat layout is perfect. I have been playing rock and blues, almost exclusivly on a strat for over 30 years and haven't had problems hitting the volume by accident.
