a wierd fender heavy metal US logo?

I saw a used Fender STrat with Kahler Spider fancy-whammy setup.
The headstock has that very strange painted STRAT...logo. The plates and stuff say USA... its wierd, played pretty good....I could see the change.

personally I prefer the standard...but for $200? hmm...?

added a pic... listened to some artists using this guitar and was pretty impressed. I don't dive bomb, i'm just a gear addict without much money.

went and checked out a Fender Ultimate Chorus amp too for $175...think I'll grab that, it sounded pretty good and was in very good condition.
right down the street on craigslist.

They had that line out sometime around the late 80's early 90's (I think closer to late 80's). I didn't think they were US made though. I was thinking Japan.

That is a Fender HM strat. I've been playing one since 1989 which is the first year of the U.S.A. HM strats. Before 1989 they were made in Japan. If you can get it for $200 that would be a steal. I've seen them sell on ebay for over twice that amount.

the plate on the back says US... but i read something about Japan made (which isn't that bad either). maybe it was just the plate that was made in the US?
Do all of them have the US plate on the back?

that greg lowe dewd on you tube...yeah, it's a Fender, but not sure why they call it a Stratocaster instead of it's own "unique" name.

anyway, I didn't go for it as far as playing. I played it and the neck isn't my type. Its flat, large and made for that dive bomb, EVH Ywangie type stuff.
Very very low action...

I'd admit it's a cool rare breed and probably a short production run, Fender Strat though.

Yeah, these were Fender's attempt at cloning a Yamaha/Ibanez/Jackson strat clone.

they were a byproduct of the hairmetal thing. they're decent guitars for what they are. they're just not my bag.

cheers,
wade
