Interesting - Fostex X-15
Just something for anyone who's interested. I broke out my Fostex x-15, 4 track cassette recorder. Haven't used it years. I recorded some acoustic and vocals and was quite pleased with the way it sounded. I decided to bring it to my car and listen and discovered I was listening to it with the Dolby on. The x-15 is doesn't have the NR feature in it like some of the Tascam units did, but it sounded great In fact it sounded better with the dolby on than off. Still plenty bright enough and of course quieter. It's a very bright sounding recorder. I haven't tried cymbals with it yet to see how that would work with it, but I thought it was interesting, the possibility to record without dolby but play it back with it. Great sounding little recorder. Still after all these years.

![]() I'm just saying it sounds good with the NR on without being encoded with it. Just an observation that is probably only of any interest to me. ![]() |
