2488 MkII Hard Drive & CD-R Replacement

I've got an aging Korg D1600 that I'm thinking about replacing and the 2488 MkII looks like it might do everything I want. One thing I can't find in the users manual or anywhere else is whether or not the Hard Drive and the CD-R Drive are user replaceable with "off the shelf" parts or is it a bring it to the shop job for big $$$.

I've got a mkII, and I would have to say you're probably looking at not doing this repair yourself. I haven't had mine long, and haven't had any problems with it, but I'd guess it's a bitch to work on yourself.

I have the 2488 Mark 1 and as I understand it, replacing the drive isn't that big a deal. I don't know about the CD-R drive. Go here:
http://www.tascam2488.com/ and search; I know the issue has been brought up on several occations.

Best,
C

Thanks for the link. I found a picture of the 2488 opened up. It looks like the HD and CD-R are easy to swap out and there's also a thread on what HD's are compatible. Didn't find much on what is used for a CD-R drive though.
Tried to link to the page with the pic, but couldn't, so here's the pic (credits to Mr. Rock over on that forum for the pic)...

its easy, I repaired a CDR tray I bumped and have had the HD out and in, a friend swapped a HD out too...its pretty standard pc plug and play. altho the gang here helped me get the software upgrade done, but it was super easy too. The only thing is plastic brakes, be careful for that.

a friend of mine changed his HD out and he doesn't even mess with that stuff...so yes its standard, off the shelf CDR and HD.

hey! while you have it open... maybe look at the preamp chips?
