Too muddy cleans?..

hello



I worked on some clean sounds last night and recorded this bluesy rock tune.
Now I'm wondering if the outcome with bass and drums is a tad too muddy??

yea little too muddy for me

i'd personally cut the kick about 100 and boost around 145

throw a high cut on the bass at 125

should clear things up a tad bit

the ride and cymbal have a channel delay, panning will give you a more direct sound, im not sure if that was your intention, i noticed thruout the song the cymbal jumps from left to right, however the ride doesn't change, perhaps a little seperation could improve on the sound, unless your happy with the way it is of course

It's a pretty cool groove. I would like the drums to have more presence (less reverb). It kind of sounds like I just walked into a club and the drummer's wailing away on the other side of the room but I'm standing right next to the amps... (I hope that makes sense).

I like it though and can't wait to hear when you add to it!

A TAD too muddy?!!
The recordings sound really nice, but the mix is far too muddy in the low mods.
The low end needs to be controlled more with compression and EQ in the mix, not at mastering stage.

I'd bring down the OHs a little and boost the close mics if you used any. The drums have a nice high end but lack in the low end.

I had a very quick go at mastering your song.

Whoa!!...

Thanks for replies, and Ecktronic for the mastering effort!

Well yeah, the problem is that the groove is played only on 4 lowest strings and it's hard to dig treble in there without getting a "boxy" sound...

I posted it to my cousins bulletinboard asking if someone wants a solo in the b-part... I think no-one is going to in there....

Any takers here???....


If not, I will doodle something in there and re-mix (keeping your advice in memory) and post the final tune here and my riff-burial site.

No probs Jouni.
Id try cutting some low mids to get rid of the mud and also that can help get rid of the boxy sound. Mud is around 290Hz and the boxy sound will be a bit higher up.
