Question 1" open reel videotape machine

I figured I'd post this here since it seemed the most relevant forum.

A friend of mine does construction work and was given a GE 1" reel to reel videotape machine out of a hospital they were doing some remodeling work in. He gave it to me, and so far, I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet.

I may part it out or, if the audio track specs are good enough, may want to use the audio side for an analog mixdown deck for projects that could use the sound qualities.

So far, I have searched the web and found very little about these machines, probably because they have been obsolete for their original purpose for a long time. If anyone could point me in the right direction to a resource to find info on these things, I'd really appreciate it.

thanks

I don't know anything about the machine but I have a 8" reel of 1" tape that should fit the machine. It appears to use a 3" hub much like a nab hub. The tape is yours for postage if you want it.

Regards

Did it look anything like this?

http://www.labguysworld.com/GECV_007.jpg

The GE in the picture was a mono linear audio recorder along with the video side of it which I believe was black & white...I can't see this as being worth much as an audio recorder given its age, probable wear and original format.

There's a bit more info on it here;

Cheers!

Thanks Ghost. No, the one I have is much newer, it has a manufacture date of 1988 and it is much bigger than that. I think the model number on front is HPR-50. I'm out of town right now so I won't be able to get home and look at it again until the weekend, I'll get the model and serial numbers etc then.I just thought it might be neat if there are parts that will fit existing analog audio machines out there that folks are trying to keep running.

evm, thanks much for the offer of the tape, I'm not sure about the hub size, but I may take you up on it
