Tascam RC-30P footswitch - substitute???

Good day.

I recently purchased a Tascam 2488 MkII and have recently seen where the footswitch would be handy. The manual recommends an RC-30P which retails here for about $50.

My question: does anybody have a schematic of this switch? Or is it even simpler than that--is it just a regular SPST (single-pole, single throw) switch? Or a DPDT? Would a guitar amp footswitch work? (I didn't want to try it without asking for fear of damaging something.) Is the plug a 3-conductor TRS or just a 2-conductor?

None of the stores even have one in stock for me to look at. I am not going to pay $50 for something I could build for about $8.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The RC-30P is a single pole, normally open momentary switch. A push-on/push-off type would not work for some applications calling for the RP-30P. There is nothing much to the RC-30P. I’ve used the plastic switch from Radio Shack for years (Part # 44-610). In fact I have the first one I ever bought from RS in about 1981… still working. I just had to put a ¼” plug on it because it came with a mini 3/32”.

There are other options… you can find them all on eBay… and even the RC-30P on eBay for a lot less.

This one looks promising... they are available from other sellers as well.

Single pole, normally open momentary--this is exactly what I needed to know. I'll break out the soldering iron and the chainsaw and make one tonight.

Thanks for the info, it is truly appreciated.
