Installed two Echo Layla 24/96 and computer won't boot. XP

I am only putting this here in the hopes that it will help someone down the road.

I installed a second layla 24/96 about a week ago. Everything was just fine. I installed a new (my second) sata drive yesterday and my computer would not boot except in safe mode. Well wasted a bunch of time messing with the hard drive. The I began to think it might be a coincident. Well it was.

Normally I always turn on my sound cards after I boot up and then later my monitors. When installing my hard drive I ignored this proceedure and left my sound cards on.

Seems XP does not want to boot up with two laylas running (at least on my system. So turn your sound cards on after the computer is booted and your cool.

Here's hoping you find this when you need it.

If anyone has a better way to deal with this, I am all ears.

Hmmm, I can't believe I just noticed this post now.

I'm assuming that was an internal SATA drive you intalled? That might have something to do with it, though I'm not versed enough (OK, at all) in the XP boot-up structure to know what it's expecting to see on start up. But I do know that if I'm working in Vegas and am later adding tracks to a project that was recorded with both of my Laylas, the program will give me an error if both soundcards aren't turned on even though I'm only trying to record through Layla 1. So that's kinda the reverse of what you're experiencing. The nice thing about the Laylas is they don't have to be on before you boot up the computer.

I can only add that for me adding external hard drives had no effect besides giving me more space to store future polished turds!

Ya it was an internal sata. Ya I turn mine on after boot and before I start sonar. If one of the cards is off Sonar will say some of my inputs are not active and ask me if I wish to continue. I believe it would let me use just one but, I turn them on at the same time with a power strip anyways. I know it's not good practice but to power up with the power strip, I've got lazy in my old age. All that tuning things on and off in seqence

Long as my speakers are off I'm OK
