Question

Ok, i have cubasisVST, its pretty cool so far. Theres a problem with it, I have no clue how to make the vocals sound at around the same level. Is there an effect i can use to make the vocals louder/softer about the same?? Also, how do i rcord with a metronome in wavelablite and transfer the file to cubasisVST?? How do i do it so that the bars show in WaveLabLite and i can edit the sound?? Is there a way to ajust the volume like volume panning?? Plesae help. Also i wanna know how to use the VST instruments like bass and drums. Plesae help if you can. Do i have to use a synthesizer hardware wise?? please help if you can and my email is musicsdarkangel@yahoo.com. PS: if you have any programs that could add neat effects to my vocals or somethin, or any neat drumming programs, please help. HOW DO I USE THE QUANTISIZER?!

Wink What about Soundforge?

Did you try to edit your vocal takes thru Soundforge? Maybe this way you can pump up the volume. (menu Process/volume) I think.

Soundforge

Soundforge is an audio editing application. You can find more information at
www.sonicfoundry.com
although after that I´m sure that you´ll visit another warez places :-)

You can use SF for adding cool effects (but will be more interesting if you install on your computer some plug-ins, as Soundforge´s effects are pretty basic.

Way to use (I recommend, but it´s NOT the only way):

If you record your audio tracks thru Cubasis, I guess there´s an audio folder on your sistem (where all your recordings within the song go).

Once you´ve found this folder, open any of these samples/tracks/takes on Soundforge, go to menu EFFECTS (or DirectX, if you installed other audio applications), and start playing with every effect you find at these menus.

Maybe U can find helpful the PROCESS audio, as there you can pump up the sample´s volume.

If you find any trouble on this, let me know. Sorry for this English!

Greetings.

Record level

To control the level of your mic or audio input I guess you should take a look to the controller program for your soundcard ins/outs. Or maybe clicking the "speaker" icon close to the Windows clock in the lower left corner of your monitor.

Smile VST instruments/ drum apps.

I´m not sure about VST instruments on Cubasis.

I use Cubase VST, and to use its instruments... first, you may have them installed :-)

If it´s OK, then go to Audio menu, select "VST Instruments", and then should appear a type of rack, where you can assign the instrument you want to use.

After selecting the instrument, go to the main window (is it "inspector" in English?), and select the output you want for the track in the "Output" column.

You can play with its volume at Audio/Monitor menu.

These steps are what I do at Cubase VST, but I think at Cubasis should be very similar.

Hope this may be helpful for you.

My favourite application for programming drum patterns is FruityLoops, as it´s very, very easy, and tremendous funny-and addictive!_

Yours,

Al

OK...good sounding vocals...To get the vocals about the same through the whole track, you should be going through a compressor and a limiter at least! The compressor will beef up the quiet parts and the limiter will stop them spiking.Maybe a little bit of exciting would do the trick also(you can get a free exciter by going on the cubase webring and looking for "excitifier")Also read up on any tips for eq'ing vocals. There's no magical answer as far as i know, its down to your own ears and listening to a lot of pro recorded stuff.Find your favourite vocal track and try and copy it!You can analyze the frequencies being used with something like Freefilter(a programme William Orbit uses to get some of his strange EQ progs from)Notch filters can be good to EQ everything else in your track to make way for your Vocal.Quantize....are you trying to quantize audio drum loops or are you trying to take the quantize from a piece of audio? If you're doing the latter, you need to click on the audio part, get the match points, snip at the match points and then use the Q tool to get the quantise(Best used on a 1 bar loop)and then click it onto your midi parts to apply it!Well...hope Ive been of some assistance and see ya l8r!

For quantize any instrument, click twice on the track bar (the coloured one), and there you´ll find two menus: "snap" and "quant". Try first setting these at 16, as it´s a very basic groove, and if you find you wrote a more complicate drum pattern, then change it to 32 or 64.

The options marked with "T" are only for quantizing on tuplets (I´m not sure if this expression exists in English), so if you don´t use keys as 12/8, 6/8, etc, maybe you won´t find it necessary.

Other way of quantizing it is using the menu "function", and then "over quantize" after recording your pattern (or a whole drum track). This will fit every note to its closer measure bar. Try it, and pay attention the way it works. When you catch this, it´s really useful.

Anyway, play a lot and try to enjoy, I know my explanations in English are really disgusting.

Good luck!

Does anyone know of a similar plugin for Windows not Mac, apparently excitifier is only for mac users.
