Recording Midi using Proteus

I've just started to dabble with this, and can't figure out whether I'm just not getting how this is supposed to work, or there's something wrong. I have Proteus X, that came with Cubase SE and my EMU-0404. I installed it according to the instructions. I can play the mini-soft keyboard, and get sounds. I have set the input up as the EMU, output as Proteus. I create a midi track, click record, play a bit on the keyboard, but it doesn't record. No track is created.

I must be missing something. The documentation that came with Proteus tells me how to set it up within Cubase, but not how to record from it.

Anyone can enlighten me? This doesn't seem like it should be that complicated.
