independant mix

Going to record a band and I'm tired of people complaining about their monitor mix. Can someone tell me how to set up independant mixes without having to buy Aviom or HearBack? Thanks.

Sorry, true.

I am using an Alesis 16 channel firewire board into my comp running CubaseSX. I only have 2 aux's on the board. Do I need to split signals and run another monitor board maybe. Thanks.

I have been to the studio a few times and there was never more than 2 mixes. One would think that one mix for the drummer and one for the rest would suffice. You should be able to mix it like live while recording, mute the drums in the drummers phones and make everyone happy.

Something must be up with your situation that is making it harder than it should be.

LOL nope, just picky musicians. The church I play at has an Aviom and it is great and it helps alot. Also when I was in the studio as a musician, they always had independent mixes. for example, in my headphones I could have each intrument in or out as much as I wanted and drums were split up into overheads, kick, snare and hihat. It made it very nice and gave more of a live feel when recording. I guess I'll add another board and split the signals unless anyone has a better idea. Thanks.

Good luck Idealy I would love to have a 8 buss board and multiple headphone amps for a situation like yours. It would of course require a different recording interface.

I'm working my way in that direction but, it isn't cheap

Hopefully you can find a cheaper solution.

I will just throw this out as a cheap option for you.
The Powerplay4600 headphone amp and the samson clone of it both have a direct in on each headphone output (along with bass & treble controls).
There is a mix adjustment on each channel that allows you to blend the direct in with the mix coming from the board. So lets say that each of your musicians want more of them selves in the mix (what are the odds, right ). you could split your signal out to the channel thier phones are on and they could blend in more of them selves if they desired.
The problem is that you would have to get that signal post preamp and I don't know how you could do that in your situation.

Looks like it's now called the powerplay pro ha4700

It's not the best headphone amp in the world but, it does give you lots of options.

Later

I appreciate it. I have an 8 channel powerplay. That will work for now. If I can get something better worked out then I'll post it. Thanks again.
