FAZING CYMBALS
I have miked up & recorded a drum set for a first time... The snare, toms & hi-hat sounded pretty good... But the crash cymbals phased a bit. Any suggestion? |

Turn down all faders except the overheads... check those for phase problems.... if there are, move the mic positions till the phase issues disappear -- 1 inch can make a HUGE difference.
Then bring up each of the rest of the mics and check against the overheads, adjusting the position until the phase problems are minimized... worst case, reverse phase on offending mics that positional adjustments don't seem to work on... That should do it... Bruce |

You might try an XY position that tends to eliminate most phasing problems and sounds rather nice as overheads.
