New Guitar Head

Hey, ive been trying to get ideas for a new guitar head. THe price range is about 400-700/800. Ive been looking at Marshall AVTS(played one, sound pretty nice), and i came accross Carvin MTS-100 All Tube Head...anyone play one/how do they sound? Im looking for something that has a good pop-punk/alternative sound to it. Even if they are solid state, im just looking for good suggestions...im pretty sure any upgrade from my line 6 HD75 will be good haha, but if you guys could suggest anything/give feedback on the Carvin, it would be much appreciated.

Also, if you want to check the carvin yourself:

http://www.carvin.com/products/singl...MTS3200&CID=GA

And if it matters, i have a Marshall Park G412 140W Cab.

Everything I've heard so far from Carvin has sounded really good. If you're in the market for a one channel, I love the sound of my Windsor and I'm sure it could pull off the tones you're looking for with a decent cab.

Hmm..im not a big peavey fan...yo, and sort of a sidetrack...i see that uve been listening to the new circa survive cd...what you think?

And to the other dude:
I'd love to get a Mesa, but i think that price will deff. raise, and i really dont have the kind of money for something like that..if it would stay in a 600-700 range, i would so want it.

I really like it. Been listening to it since a couple weeks ago and I think it tops Juturna.
Why not a Peavey fan? They make affordable gear that sounds great and is (for the most part) pretty damn reliable...

idk man, just never like the sound of their amps...always loved mesas, marshalls..stuff like that...but i really never heard or played their tubes, so i cant diss them...but regardless, id love to have a marshall/mesa/carvin/orange/matchless..or something like that...especially marshall/carvin. but maybe i will try peavey tube amps and stuff. Oh and yeah i love the 4th song on the cd...god i only wish i could be as creative as them/sing like anthony green haha. But next time i go to guitar center, i'll check some peaveys.

I like Carvin stuff quite a bit. The MTS is a fine setup.

I'm partial to their vintage series combos.

For modern distortion levels you will want to put a pedal in front of it.

Is this a opinion based on personal experience with the Carvin MTS amp, or are you making a general assumtion about it?

The reason i ask is the sound clip off the link sounds pretty darn modern and it actually sounds like a really nice amp for modern distortion. It also sounds like a true acuarate recording that is not processed or juiced up with any mastering studio tricks.

Just wondering. I know the term "modern" can mean alot of different things to different people.

It also sounds like there is enough distortion to back off on it a little if you wanted to and still sound heavy or rock depending on your set up.

I love my AVT, it's a combo. OD channel is good, very marshall....the clean has a nice bit of break-up to for a hybrid, kinda clean punk stuff.

Where is Jonny C????

the carvin is a great amp, to me you would need no pedals in front of it unless you just wanted to color it, i am not a big pedal person with an amp like this

Well its not that, i've tried my friend's peavey, and a few at guitar center..they just sound to hardcore of a tone. They are nice, but im not looking for that kind of sound. So regardless, i think i've narrowed it down to that Carvin head or the AVT...whichever sounds the most pop-punk/jimmy eat world-esq/alternative...i'm going with it. Thank you, btw, for everyone having their input.

It just irritates me when people want to buy new when they can get closer to what they want if they're only willing to put some time into watching ebay and buying used.

like this kid: he only had to get online and put myspace off for a couple minutes in order to check ebay a couple minutes before the thing ended and he would have been able to buy an amp in his price range that he had expressed interest in.

I know you were just kidding around travisinflorida, but it just boggles my mind.

i missed the part about him wanting a mesa. yea, he could have caught a deal. if he's persistent there will be plenty more deals to catch if he's not hung up about used gear. some people are and that boggles my mind. it's very common to pick up a piece of used gear at 40% off the best retail prices of new gear. many people will put the money into a new piece of gear (because it's new) that they don't really want and the value drops like a rock when you carry it out of the store. yea, that is boggling.

Well, once I bought a Roland Juno 106 on ebay and it was fuckin' busted and I couldn't get my money back. That has been my most significant issue with buying used gear. It kind of boggled my mind too...

If I can check it out locally and it doesn't seem sketchy I'll pick something up used.

AVT's suck the taint grease off my nutsack. I wouldn't record with one if Rosie O'Donnell was threatening rape. Donkey I repacked your pre to the gills with stuffing and bubblewrap. Wanted to make sure it got there ok, should be there shortly.

Just curious, this head has caught my attention recentely.
