Boss Dr880

I've been hearing good things about this unit.

1. Is it difficult to use for a 1st time drum machine user?
2. Is this unit all you need, do you just press the pads on the machine?

Say I buy a firewire unit, will this dr880 plug right into that and I can record, or are there other things I need such as a keyboard?

3. Can this unit be used live as well?

I used to have a couple of different Boss units, the last one was the DR-770. I'm sure the 880 can't be too much different as far as basic functionality goes.

To answer your questions I'd say

1.) No, unless you're terrible at reading manuals and figuring stuff out. They are usually pretty simple.
2.) Yes it is all you'll need. It will have a couple of 1/4" outs. probably a stereo output and one or two individual outs for seperating drums if you want to.
3.) Sure. Have your songs programmed and saved - plug it into a PA and get somebody to hit play.

I have a DR-670 and I agree with metalhead28. Easy to use and program - you can play real-time or program entire songs for replay.
