The tascam 2488

I just got the tascam 2488 digital recorder and was wondering if it is a good studio equipment to use because some people say that it isn't all that good.

How do you like it? That's the only opinion that matters. If everyone liked the same kind of equipment, there would only be one brand/model. The 2488 had some software glitches when it first came out, but if you've got a new one, or one that's running the updated software, it should work fine.

You're asking this AFTER you bought it???

Follow Trillian's advice, especially about the updated software.

2488

I loaned mine then, was coaxed into selling it to my brother. His band was needing something, and they love it.

Paid $1,000 for it brand new. I could babble on and on about how I liked the 2488, a fine piece. 24tracks, 24bit clean digital HD, good pre's, effects, EASY TO USE! CD-R!! Mastering section! HD is over the counter if you want to upgrade, CD-R is standard pc CD-R if you want to upgrade.....geez!

IMO, the comparison is I paid $1200, in 1979-80, for a 4-track Tascam Cassette porta-studio.

The biggest negative, is the plastic.

Being a wanna-be gear-head...
Personally, I don't miss it. I love my FREE Kristal Audio Engine PC recording software on the pc.
The $50 21" monitor displaying color graphics and ease of Kristal editing features is amazing, burning sending mp3, editing/adding to is a breeze, and am playing with FREE plug-ins (but my pc can't handle much of these).

FREE is Good.

I own it also

I own the 2488 as well. Its a good machine. Very user friendly, biggest downfall is green led screen and no video monitor out. It would be nice to get a bunch of us using this machine to trade tips with one another.

Members used to be at a Tascam forum that turned bad, and they started their own.

I have the 2488, and so far, for the money, I don't think there is better if you don't want to be chained to a PC.

Best,
C.

I also own a 2488 and it suits my needs perfectly, as an all-in-one home recording unit.

My main complaints are the small LCD screen and the shitty documentation. Don't be afraid to ask for help with stuff, because there are times when that's the only way to find out!

Oh, and, yes, you can import .wav files, either by a USB hookup to a PC or from a CD. If I'm not mistaken, all .wav files are imported as mono.

Here is another place to find out information on your 2488. Down load the Home Guide, it will help you out a lot more that than the manual.

I got mine when they first came out so I guess I'm running the old software. Still no problems though. As a former 788 user it was a natural transition. The small screen blows but other than that I still like it.
