Not positive, but I'm gonna go with: it is a Fender Tele, but with a custom, or maybe just an aftermarket, pick guard. Reminds me of the old-school Gibson SG pickguards. Also, that guitar has some P-90's in it, if that matters.

Another view....http://www.12fret.com/new/fenderTeleSonicPage.html

although it had real potential, most everyone who bought one at about $1100 thought it was a real piece of crap. The early models had a crappy bridge, and even when this was fixed, they didn't tune worth a damn.

You know,it fell right in my hands and I took it.I aways wanted a standard tele though.
There's a single coil under the ashtray and humbucker is very bright sounding.

JPXTom,

I saw that you posted the same question at the Jimmy Eat World forums. That's a good idea, and I think your answers there are the right ones. It most definitely is NOT a Telesonic - it has P90s and the knobs are tophats/Fender amp knobs arranged in a rhombus/parallellogram pattern, while the Telesonic has DeArmond 2Ks and the knobs are chrome and arranged in a square/rectangle pattern.

To me it looks a lot like a Stratosonic (cherry, mahogany body, P90s, pickguard) with a Tele body. If you check out other photos on the band's website you can tell that the body is contoured where the forearm rests like a Strat, too.

My guess, as the forums seem to suggest, is that this is a one-off instrument. Although it is a hollow-body with two cutaways, I bet a TC-90 would do the trick.

TC-90:

For the record this is a Fender TC-90, apparently made custom for him.

You know,I must be the only person who wasn't that impressed with it. I took it for some work I did for a guy,I wasn't really excited about it,but figured I couldn't pass it up.I like Tele's but I realy wanted a standard one.

The neck is too fast for a hamfisted player like me.

The ashtray cover comes off and reveals the usual slanted single coil and Tele bridge.

If you go to the Jimmy Eat World website you will see that Jim states it is a Fender Telecaster Thinline TC-90 2004-2005 model.
