I must have played every fuckin' tube amp in the place..

I played a Mesa Stiletto combo. I spent some time with a Mesa Lone Star and a Lone Star Special. I tried a Recto-Verb. I tried a Road King.

The Mesa Stiletto has one of the best clean sounds I've ever heard. The gain channel sucks. It doesn't sound "marshally" to me. I doesn't even sound like a Mesa to me. I took it back.

I tried a Vox AC30. I tried a Voc AC50.

I tried various Marshalls. I tried a Bad Cat. I couldn't find a Bogner nearby but I'd have played that, too.

I played some local boutique amps in various EL34 and 6L6 configurations.

See, I really wanted a boutiqe-ey amp with lots of features.

Problem is, none of these amps sounded like what I wanted. I could get close, but couldn't just nail it.

I wanted a Fender. Price wasn't an issue, really.

I played the twin reissue. I played "the twin". I played a Vibro-King.

I wound up buying a Fender Super Sonic head and speaker cab. I was able to immediately find a sound I liked and really couldn't get a bad sound out of it. No reverb but oh well. This amp sings.

I liked the Vibro-king and the Twin reverb but the channel switching and the clean voicings on the 'sonic sealed the deal.

I'm happy.

I hope you enjoy the Super Sonic, Super Creep.

I was very tempted to buy that one myself but went for an AC30 with Blues.

What's the sound you're after? When I think Botique, I think low options, the sound it makes is the sound you get and expensive. Frankly, I like my low/mid gain amps that way, seething cleans and sweet break up...simple, then trash it up as needed with an over-drive.

For over-the top metal stuff, get a killer like a 5150 or Triple Rectumfyer Mesa or a Bogner Ubershall

I've been playing an early 70s twin for quite some time and I've always been really happy with it. I bought from a friend that basically gave it away for like $225 if I recall correctly. Might have been $200 flat. Great amp though.

That's just it... I thought I wanted something really exotic but what I really wanted was right under my nose the whole time.

...plain old vanilla Fender. I ordered a Supersonic Head and 4x12 cabinet loaded with Celestion Vintage 30s. All cream tolex w/oxblood grillcloth.

I really dig those Supersonics myself and my main amp is a Divided By 13. I agree with botique becoming more focused in on doing a certian sound.

Aaahh,

Another axe grinder on a tone quest...my man...no one who has ever gone on this journey returned victorious and still lives to tell the tale.

We wish you peace and serenity. It's likely that you'll go insane long before you master the craft.

A simple amp but sweet in it's own right...the THD Univalve....not a killer but a tasteful poison none the less.

Truth is, there is no "One" amp. There are many, some wanna-be's and some that really deliver but few if any do it all.

Man when you find it, let me know. I've got about 400 pounds of ballast I'd like to unload.

The Rivera 6L6-based amps deliver the Fender tone and are built like tanks.

There's always something better as long as there is something different, huh.

I need to cool it for a while, in the last 6 months I've purchased:

Super Sonic Head, Super Sonic 4x12
JC-120
MotionSound 1x12
Voodoo Labs amp selector
analogue filter
DL-4
Dynacomp (not a script)
Phase 90
Volume/Wah
Boss Tuner TU-Whatever
american deluxe ash telecaster
RE-20

And I have recorded three songs.

I think I need a multipattern LDC....

Finally another Supersonic owner. I have the combo version with reverb.
Did you try one of those out? I love mine except the reverb has been screwed
up on it since day one. I get feedback when the reverb is turned past 5
and now thunder type sounds in the background. I think the reverb tank
is bad on it. Other than that it is a the best amp I've ever owned except
for a couple West amps several decades ago.

I almost got the combo, but I've never owned a head, so I went with it. It will be a couple of weeks before I get it, because they didn't have either piece in blonde/oxblood.

I truly was impressed with the sound. I have to just not think about the circuit boards inside.

It's nice that the tube sockets are hand wired, at least.

Lack of reverb is kind of lame, but I can get around it - and never use much anyway.

Talking

A really handy feature is the effects loop even if you don't use effects you can run cables between the in and out. It has gain adjustment so you can use it for a boost even with no effects connected.

I've got the bone and oxblood grill also. The amp just plain looks cool I ordered a Carvin vintage series 2-12 cabinet for mine a couple of days their suppose to sound just like the Vintage 30 that came in the combo.

The sustain on the burn channel is great I turn it up to about 4 or 5 put gain 1 "distortion" on about 9 oclock and gain 2 "sustain" at 12 oclock.
In comparison all distortion and sustain pedals sound like garbage compared to what the supersonic offers.
The clean channel or should I say channels are just as good. Talk about bright and chimmey I usually have it set to emulate the bassman. I usually use a telecaster with BL pickups with the volume set to .5 to 1 in my studio on the clean channel. This is the loudest 60W amp in the world. With 4 12"
vintage 30's and a supersonic head you better order some good hear plugs

I'm a pretty heavy hitter on the drums, so the 4x12 should come in handy.

Music store called today and said the 4x12 is backordered through October.

I think they're going to have to give me a loaner.

Congratulations, man! Different flavors for everyone...I bought a Super Reverb that I still love a few years back. Funny, because the Vibro-King was one of the contenders next to it that I liked. That, the Blues Junior and the Deluxe Reverb. I think Fender has always made, and still makes, a great sounding tube amp.

Guys are going to loan me a vox 4x12 loaded with alnico blues until my blonde 4x12 is available sometime in October.

How can it take Fender until October to manufacture a 4x12 cab?

I realize they're not machine-manufactured, but damn. Are they waiting for enough orders to justify the expense?

My guess is that they have many orders for them already and they estimate that it may them take that long to get to yours. I'd also bet that they get it to you sooner than that; it's better to surprise a customer with good news than with bad news.

Good point....I read it as this: "People are realizing PODS and similation software don't give them the wood-lusting tone that the real deal does, so after trying the imitations many people at once are buying the real McCoy."

Supercreep, a seasoned professional such as yourself is not in this category, but unfortunately there are a lot of the younger generation out there trying to score a real amp at the same time you decided to update your arsenal. Fender is one of my favorite-sounding amps, and I've owned a handful throughout the 80s, 90s, and the final purchase of the SR in 2002.
