Thumbs down I just tore apart my 424 MKIII

Cheap, cheap, cheap…almost scary. Glad I paid only $50 for it..

Me too. My gripe is they are made to be disposable. Not designed for repair or maintanance. They're a pain in the ass to take apart and reassemble. They didn't have to make them like that.

You should see the guts of the TASCAM 244 / 246 portastudio. Night and day difference between that and the more recent portas, 424, 414 etc... (Cheap is right ). On the other hand, the latter doesn't cost 2K either.

I took apart my 488 and don't recall thinking it was WAY cheap. But this 424mklll has wires about the thickness of hair attached to flimsy little plugs that don't accommodate my fingers. Then the wires aren’t long enough to spread the two main sections far enough apart to unplug the connectors. Perhaps if I had midget hands and surgical tools I would feel more comfortable rooting around in there. As long as it faithfully records, I don’t care. My reason for taking it apart was to see if I could make the sliders work easier. No success there. They looked like cheap crap with looong handles so I used (shudder) Radio Shack spray on them. Got the results I expected.

Arrow They're made by elves!

Tiny little Japanese elves!

As long as it faithfully records you, Starzz, that's all I care about too!

Arrow God,...

The 244 & 246 are built like tanks! That's when hardware was a real man's game, before things went all soft and lite!
