Maybe a silly question regarding VST Sampling in Cubase

Hey all.. this is my first post in the forums.. been a lurker for a little while and thought it was time to jumpin.

My background with audio stuff is pretty extensive, so hopefully I can explain my inquiry very directly and to the point..

so right now I'm devoid of all of my audio equipment. all I have in front of me is a bunch of software and a computer, but no midi keyboard or instruments, or pci audio card for that matter, just a lowly SB Audigy card with no inputs..

After a longer hiatus than expected, I've gotten back up on it and wanna produce some tracks. ATM I'm using Kontakt 2 vst with Cubase to get a bunch of samples going so that I can make some tracks out of them.. problem I'm having atm is that I can't actually use midi to trigger the samples since I don't have a midi setup right now. I can obviously hit key for key on the kontakt keyboard, but how can I insert midi notes into cubase to trigger the samples without a keyboard!??! I've always used a keyboard before so now I'm wondering if there is a way without one..

does Cubase have a built in keyboard that you can bring up and attach to a VSTI?? Is there some sort of thirdparty midi key program that would do this???

It's time consuming to enter midi within cubase, but you certainly can do it. Just add a midi track to your project, use the pencil tool to draw a few measures on the track, and then right-click on it to open the key editor. You can use your mouse to enter notes. Load your vsti and output the midi track to the vsti and you should be good to go.

That's exactly what I was hoping for.. see I knew there was a way, just kinda forgot that that is how you do it.. Thanks for the info Scrubs! I know it isn't necessarily the best way to do it, and using a controller would be twice as fast, but I got lotsa time on my hands, and my main focus is just getting a good library of my own samples for use.. this will make it possible to get them on the page and work em around in time a bit..
