Blue The Ball

Anyones feeling on Blue The Ball mic? Is it really better than a sm57 for guitar? I'm thinking about buying one.

Thanks,
Aaron

i dunno-- i've never used either, but they've dropped the price on the 8-ball to $100. it's a cardioid condenser (the ball is a phantom-powered dynamic i believe) and might offer more value. you could use it as an overhead, a vocal mic, acoustic guitar mic, other acoustic instruments and on amps. ymmv though.

blue ball= don't bother.
there's better places to put your money.
not better than a 57 on git.

Most people I talk to have either loved it or hated it. What do you think would be a good guitar amp mic, better than the sm57, but still around that price range? I'm looking for a full, but not muddy guitar sound.

Thanks,
Aaron

I had one a few years ago. Unimpressive really. For the price, I'd go with an Audix I5 or an SM57 for E-guitar.

Do you have any sound clips with the i5?

not real handy, but if you search, a board member here compared the sm57, i5 and one of the sennheisers i believe with sound clips-- that will probably be way more useful

I heard it to be real good, similar or better than the sm57. I guess people are not liking it because it looks like a toy and not a serious mic even though they might never have even heard it.

....

I had one, and ditched it for an 8ball. Way cooler mic, especially on toms.

Nope, to the contrary, I owned it then traded it off for some services. Gave it up in exchange for some drum work on a small project I was putting together. I actually bought it because I thought it looked cool and heard that it was a good mic for guitar cabs and possibly for drums. Turned out that there were better performing mics at a better bargain.

Three bargain mics that I think sound better for guitar cabs; Audix I5, SM57 and/or the E609.

Audix makes great mics, you wont be let down. I keep telling people get the DP5a, you can score this gem for under 500 bucks new on ebay.
