Decibel monitoring off?

I use FL Studio for production/mixing.

Voxengo Span says my db is -6 db.
FL Studio's own DB meter says +6 db.

FL Studio says 0 db.
Voxengo says -10.

So what's up with that?

And I can hear distortion too, so it seems FL Studio is correct and Voxengo is wrong.

I have no clue what you're talking about....
but it sounds like you're confusing VU and digital peak meters.

So both are right! Just two different metering systems.

Isn't VU analog metering?

I'm talking about the metering in FL Studio not being consistent with the metering of the VST plugin Voxengo Span.

Hope that clears it up.

Is there anything effecting volume/gain between FL and the plugin? Is the plugin applying gain? (I don't know what that plugin does).

i thought so but theres a vu in amplitube so i guess theres digital vu's too!

as for the outputs it could be as danny guitar said and be the plug adding gain.
think like a parametric eq if you boost the eq loads then the gain going out is hotter hence you may have had fine levels before but after the plug its hotter and you get clipping ect.

does that make sense?

Vu is a scale/meter ballistics standard. You normally see it on analog gear, but you can have a digital VU meter.

The other possiblity is the voxengo is reading RMS levels and your other meters are reading peak.

Check the setup of the voxengo.
