Beatboxing mic
Any type of mic you guys would recommend for Beatboxing?
And do you "need" a pop filter for it? |

The Shure Beta58 is pretty popular, it seems to take the excessive moisture pretty well and doesn't have a ton of handling noise. A pop filter isn't going to do you much good, from what I've seen, the techniques seem to require being able to cup the mic pretty tight. Unless that's just for show.

beta 58 for shure, pardon the pun.
reasons state previously, totally in agreement here. also good for standup comedians who do vocal effects, same reasons. Cheers, Don

Listen to this....its a beatboxing sample on 3 mics (2 Shures, 1 Behringer). The order of the mics is as the title of the sample reads

haha, well that's why I agreed with the beta 58 idea. I wouldn't use it for real music... great for beatboxing, screaming in live concerts, and vocals on a windy stage though. beatboxing is great, but it's an effect, a simulation of percussion or drums, and the beta 58 is good for that (as was the lowly sm58 for decades). I know, I'm being mean, it's not a bad mic, just not my choice personally.

i like the beta 58 for live use.
as for recording... well... maybe as a talkback mic, but i've got 57's to do the dirty work. also, i'd never use a 57 or a 58 for recording vocals, other than screaming.

Probably any Royer ribbon would capture the nuance of a fine beatbox performance.
Watch those plosives though!! J/K. How about an RE20? |
