I received my Michael Joly modified MK319 last week. I wanted to live with it for a little while before posting any comments.
Here is my amateur review: I liked my stock Oktava for my personal vocals, and could hear great potential in this mic, so I went for the mods. (Floating dome with premium electronics) This is a very "meaty" sounding mic. Sounds great on acoustic guitar, gives drums a lot of punch, and is still my vocal mic of choice. In no way could it be called shrill, like so many cheap condensers I've used. Nor is it muddy. It is smooth and full range, but also has a very present midrange. And it's good, expensive sounding midrange. It takes eq well. (which isn't often needed really) I haven't been priviledged to hear many truly high end mics. But of the mics I have spent some time with, I believe this mic to be in the quality range of the TLM-103 and the Mojave MA1000. Who knows? Maybe better. If you're considering these mods: Just do it! Dealing with Michael is a pleasure, and the job gets done in a timely manner.

Also, I forgot to mention that the self noise was greatly improved as well.

the mod is $250 and the total cost depends on how lucky you are....I got my mic from Chessrock for $50 and the mod for $250.... While Mr. Joly had my mic, I acquired a second 319 for only $65. It will probably get modded as well...maybe the flat top rather than floating dome....and ofcourse the PE mod...

You can buy new, already-modded mics directly from Michael. Go to his website and shoot him an email asking for a price list. He's always responded to my emails really quickly. One of these days I'll scare up the dough to get the PE upgrades for my 219s.
