is this unity gain on this mixer?

ok i found and old mixer in a box (peavey 500 unity series) and it's faders are not the ones u slide up and down. they are the ones u turn (o' clock) faders. the master fader is labeled from 0 (being the lowest) all the way to 10 (being the highest) and it's also labeled like that for the channel level and gain faders. so where would unity gain be on the master and channel level fader be because when they are set to 0 no sound comes out of the mixer. help please and explain where unity gain is on mixers with the o clock knobs.

On my mixer there is a mark at 3 o'clock indicating unity. Not sure what to say other than check Peavey's site. They have an archive of manuals for old gear.

let me guess do you have the yamaha mg 10/2?

if so, how far (o clock wise) do u turn the channel gain to reach -18dbfs and do u use the rca REC OUT to capture the sound?

Unless you can find a manual that tells you or have a calibrated test signal, you'll just have to guess. 3 o'clock would make sense, but it's just a guess.

farview can u explain to me how to do the calibrated test? and does it matter what my sound card line in level is set to (does it have to be set to 0 right)?

You would have to have a test signal that was line level.
Plug that in to the line input. Hit solo on that channel and set the trim so the meter reads 0.

Route that channel to a buss, solo the buss. Now turn up the channel fader until the meter reads 0.

Now raise the master fader until the meter reads 0.

You have now found unity on all the faders and trim controls.

farview i don't have a solo on my mixer. and when u say turn the fader up till it reaches 0 do you mean 0 on the mixer while singin into the mic?

If you don't have a solo button, you're screwed.

I didn't say anything about singing into a mic, you have to have a test signal that you know is line level in order to calibrate anything. Without the solo button, the meter won't read the channel volume so you're out of luck.

what exactly does the solo button do? what if i only have one channel being used which is the mic preamp can that count as solo since i'm only occupyin 1 channel
