rev 2 or rev 3 Prophet confusion
Is there really that big a difference in the sound of the prophet 5 rev2 and rev3 synth....the price difference is pretty strong....just wondering if its justified?

Do some searches on the web for more info. Here's a good place to start: http://www.synthmuseum.com/sequ/seqpro501.html
If I remember correctly (and I probably don't ), the rev 1 used a discrete vco and rev 2 switched to an SSM chip vco that took basically the same circuits and put them on a chip. Rev 3 went with CEM vco chips that had tempco resistors to keep the pitch more stable, but changed the sound of the vco.I played a rev2 for a couple years and it was a lot of fun, but needed to be tuned between each song for the first half hour while it warmed up. Just took a button press, but had to pause for 10 seconds or so. |
