Schecter basses??

I was drooling over that c1 classic-thread and found out that the local store sports a Schecter diamond series bass (pic), haven't found any reviews or even a pic of one with pots in a row like that...?

I need a backup for my Fernandes, wich is under maintanence and mods.

So, how are schecter basses in general??? any word out??

gonna try it out next chance I get, but anyways..

My Ibanez bass has active pickups and 4 knobs. Its knobs are:
-- Overall volume
-- Pickup blend
-- Treble cut / boost
-- Bass cut / boost

Of course, when he got it, it just had one pickup with one volume knob.

Then he decided it would be better with a MM humbucker instead, adding a coil splitter and tone control, and as long as he was at it he might as well add a second pickup and a second set of controls, but then he though maybe it would be better if the controls were different, and well, he doesn't really use the coil splitter anyway, so lets take that out...

Thumbs up Schecters in general

I can't vouch for how they sound, never plugged one in and never knowingly heard one recorded, but any Schecter anything I've ever had my hands on seemed really well made. Their guitars aren't my cup of tea, just like Carvins, but like Carvins, they seem extremely well built, very solid, with very good action.

That Schecter bass is one I might actually consider, being so Fender-like.

Where's that "wag-a-middle-finger" icon when you need it?

I use a Schecter 5-string Stilleto bass for my bass gigs. I like it for being a fairly inexpensive bass. Sound is good ....... the low B string is a little boomy but in general the sound is quite good. It's a 5 string so the neck's a bit largish but I don't have any problems with that .....
If bass got to be more than a few gigs a month I'd want something better but as long as most of my gigs are sax/guitar this does fine and I think it would be a very good backup.

I tried out a Schecter (don't remember the model - it was in the $300 range) about a year or so ago. It appeared to be solidly built, sounded good and played well. I ended up buying an Ibenex for about $70 less - because bass is not my main axe (guitar is not even my main axe) and the Ibenez had a thinner neck, that made it easier to play (at least for me). For tracking bass on demo projects the Ibenez worked fine.

I thought the Schecter was built as good (actually better) than the Ibenez and I actually liked playing it much more than a Fender Mexi Jazz bass I own - I know this may be heresy, but I don't like the playability of Fender basses too much.

If bass was my main axe, I suspect I would be very satisfied with a Schecter as a back-up (or maybe even a primary) axe.

racketstar is on a distinguished road
used to play in a big band (an actual big band, not just a large band) and we went on a trip with a german big band and their bassist had a schecter, played lovely, worked well for slap and finger and had a good range of sounds. But as for everything, it'd most likely be best for you to go and play and decide.

I actually went out to Guitar Center and played and compared every bass they had in my price range (800). I had my mind set on an Ibanez SR505 but when I heard the Schector Elite-5 it blew me away. It's got such a crisp, yet full sound it was unbelievable. The Ibanez sounded almost identical but it just felt awkward to play for me, the balance wasnt right. On the Schector, the neck just felt perfect and its really solid, really well built. So, I cant speak about that specific bass you are looking at but I'm very happy with Schector overall.

i have the elite-5 and it's great. MrQ likes it too. took it to jamfest 6. there's 3 tracks in the cave where i'm playing it. active electronics emg pickups, very adjustable tonality and great looks, very wide range of sounds

I hate living in a backwood-country...
They had sold the schecter and not updated their website. So, I continued hunting.

AND found A Schecter Scorpion (BEAD) bass. Ordered it without trying, I'm that fed up with bullshitting and my serious GAS needed the satisfaction.

Huh, over with it...
