corky guitar recoridng methods
im having trouble getting the best sound out of my guitars. I get a decent sound, but it's just not enough. I mainly deal with metal or heavy music recording, so lots of distorion. I know to turn down the gain because gain is always added through the mix.
but here's the mics i have to work with sennheiser e609 sm57 2 at2020's at2021 those are really the only mics i am able to use with the guitar cabs safely. Does anyone have any suggestions on placement, or volumes of each mic, etc. and i know this is all opinion, but record the cab at live volume? or normal volume? whats your opinion? all recordings are done through a 4x12 cab [usually they us emy avatar vintage 30's 4x12 cab] thanks in advance ![]() |

The 57 should do the trick. What head are you using? I would put the mic about an inch to two inches of the grill cloth. On axis with the speaker and half way between the dust cover in the center of the cone and the edge. You don't need it really lowd.
