Mr16hd

For those of you that have already purchased the recently released MR16HD: I was wondering, does it come with built in metronome and tuner??
I'm considering buying one, but the PDF manual hasn't been released yet.

Any info will be greatly appreciated

Cheers!

Huh? I see it on their site, as well as a review in their latest email...the MR16HD/CD.

Hmmm, that's weird; it was just released this past winter NAMM!?!?!
I had a friend go to a Guitar Center 2 weeks ago, and they told him, they didn't have it in stock yet!

I guess I better e mail Fostex, just to be sure.

Thanks for your input guys.

Cheers!

They are selling the one with the built in CD drive. Sorry for the false alarm. I'm still tracking with a VF 16.

It's strange why Musicians Friend did that! Then click on 'other options' it brings you to this page: Click Here

I read elsewhere that the new Fostex MR16HD/CD 16-Track Digital Recorder isn't too bad at all. I'm thinking of buying one, or I might settle for a Boss instead. I don't plan on using a computer/hardware/software setup anymore! Been there done that and it doesn't serve my particular needs right now, I have too much software required to run other apps to maintain my website! However! When I buy another computer dedicated to recording/production only I will make sure it has enough power to run a fleet of Starships, to go way beyond time and space then yeah! I think I would go back to using software recording apps LOL!!

that's funny, they still have it like that, it's a big website...they also show a peavey mixer missing 4 knobs in one picture, another mess-up

me too, but not in my main studio/closet room, it's good portable and easy to take the files off and burn or use them in another box

power question

I'm in Australia and just bought a 16HD in The States, which means voltage differences (hZ too.) I've been all over the HD manual and can't find a concrete answer, regarding power requirements. It's almost as if this thing has some sort of universal transformer that will accomodate anything I put into it - 120-240v & 50/60hZ. I do have a 100w step down, which should handle the thing, but I'm wondering if anybody knows, for sure, what my answer is. I don't get a rush out of plugging 120v appliances into 240v sockets (unless, of course, they are useless, and I want to get rid of company...)

I bought the MR16 from American Music Supply but really wasnt that impressed. I too have a MR8 and I use it as a scratch pad since it has the built in condensor mic. I think the MR16 is decent but hey for the price you can't expect alot. I did get the one without the CD burner so it is available. I really don't like the fact that it has limited mixing capabilities, and yes you can use a computer based software to complete the project.

I sent the MR16 back to American Music Supply and purchased a "NEW" TASCAM MK11 for $719.00 and believe me, it is fabulous sound quality. It is true what you put in, is exactly what you get out. People on places like Harmony Central give alot of recorders a bad rating and state problems with them. I have owned Boss BR1200, Zoom 1288 and 1688 Fostex MR8, which I still own and it is a good recorder, Fostex reel to reels and TASCAM tape recorders and besides my Fostex reel to reel, this TASCAM MK11 is an awesome machine.

Fostex has continue to do alot for us basement recording guys and my hats off to them, but the MR16 is just a MR8 with a few more channels and 4 XLR inputs.

My Fostex VF160 can be plugged into anything. Check the fine-print right where the plug enters the case.

The MR16HD/CD does not have a built in tuner. It does include the metronome however.

The .pdf manual and the CD supplement manual are available on Fostexusa.com. See"Fostex Support > Product Documentation".
I use my Zoom H2 as a mic. The H2 has both metronome and a tuner!!!

Ive got the mr16hd and I have not had any problems, I certainly wish it had more eq options. But ive been pretty happy with it so far, keeping in mind of course that befor this i had the old tascam 4 track tape. And way back befor that i was tracking out of my pedal right into the mic input on the pc, till that went kaput"i think". But ive been able to get some decent sounding stuff out of it, but I am just starting out with serious songwriting, so what do i know.?
