Spector basses ROCK!!!
The bass player for one of the groups I'm producing (DSG) just got a Spector endorsement. He came in with his new bass, plugged it in and HOLY SHIT! did that thing sound great. No amp, no EQ, no compression. Plenty of highs and lows with a growl that you can hear when it's not plugged into anything.
We are re-doing all the songs that he's already done with his old top-of-the-line bass from another company. The thing plays so well that I don't have to use a compressor because he is now playing so smooth. The ones he's using are the European ones. (the mid line) He picked a used 4 string up at Guitar Center for under $500 for a backup bass after getting his 6 string form the company. Highly recomended.

I had a Spector (one of the Korean ones) sounded good and was pretty comfortable, but my Conklin gave me the same sound and was more comfortable. I believe the more expensive ones have a strong following at TB.

Dude, no kidding... My first bass was a spector, one of the cheap korean ones that I got for next to nothing (gotta love gc salesmen who are getting ready to quit...). I have two other basses, both nice ibanez models, and the spector gets all of the recording time when I do any bass tracking. Great feel, great direct tone, and very versatile.

The first Spector I played was a jet black NS 2 with serial #000017...I've never played a more comfortable, balanced buttery bass before or since...It hung behind the counter at the Golden Pawn next to Strings West in Tulsa OK...It was "for display", the sales guy's own personal bass, and was not for sale...BASTIDGE...I later picked up an '88 NS 2-A (When Kramer owned the company), and as much as I love my Spector, #000017 still visits me in my dreams...
I noticed that Warwick liked the body style of the NS as well...Did Ned Steinberger work for them too? Eric

I have been to the spector bass factory quite a few times and am friends with the head tech and owner. It is always fun to go there and hang out. I just helped them get their new CNC mill up and running. I am a machinist and get called up there now and then for some advice. To bad I don't know how to build guitars, just set up, program and maintain CNC equipment. I had my friend put together a base for another friend of mine out of "seconds", 300 bills, very nice.
The owner sold me my 68 super reverb for 300.00 bills for helping him out.

they are very well priced too i think of the lowers ones as kinda flashier versions of ibanez soundgears (soundgears are also good basses for the price)

I love my4 string Spector Bass. It is a Korean made one.
4 tone/volume pots...two EMG-HZ pick-ups. I don't get why they put the cheap plastic tuners on it though. I would gladly pay a little extra on any guitar for the metal ones. If you want to hear it's tone, there is a 'Bass Diddy' on my soundclick page....in my sig is the link. My playing sucks, but the tone is sweet. |

me too. i have a bolt on that was made by kramer ( entry level, but it looked good) i have a korean from 1988 and a rebop 4dlx that is european made (chec republic) i love the feel of the spector basses. the neck is pretty thick but it feels good. if you want to feel a thin neck take a look at the ibanez sb 900 le( i got one of those hanging on my wall) its basically an xtended guitar neck.

Great link! Thanks Zook.
My Spector has the same finish as the Spector NS-2 Serial #331....the Quilted maple with amber finish This one stirred my GASssss.... Serial #4??. Has Hipshot D tuner that is blocking the rest of the serial number. High Gloss Golden Stain over flamed Maple. Neck thru body w/abalone inlays. P&J EMG pickups w/ Hazlab 9 volt circuit. |

True, that sounds awesome. Was that both miked and DIed? I think I may have to pick up one of these Spector basses, it might even put my completely reworked P out of main service if I get a similar sound.
I wonder if Phil was some sort of inspiration for the name?
