Swappable pickups?

They make car radios you can pull out and take with you.

Why hasn't someone made a line of pickups you could swap in and out?

Have it to where you just loosen the 3 high strings and snap it into place or something. One slot for single coils, one for humbuckers.

Didn't the Dan Armstrongs have interchangeable pickups?

Yes, there were several models by Armstrong which had swappable pickups, snap in , snap out. It seems like they even had one ( maybe more) where the pickups set in on a track sort of thing which allowed you to position the pickup where you wanted it. I don't know why the idea never caught on better. Gibson did put slider pickups on some of the Grabber series basses and maybe even a few of the Grabber series guitars, but Armstrong has been the only company to use interchangable pickups so far, at least the only one that I am aware of.

I think things are leaning toward modeling guitars these days so the prospects of seeing a switchable PU on a guitar is getting dimmer.

I'm a big fan of coil taps, that gives you a little variety.
